PIONEERS DOMINATED FALCONS IN RECORD BREAKING WIN; LEBLANC THROWS NO-HITTER IN GAME ONE

ODESSA, Texas (March 17, 2023) – Luck had nothing to do with it this St. Patrick's Day, as Texas Woman's (15-14, 9-11) softball scored big in a Friday night double header over UT Permian Basin (6-19, 3-14) at Falcon Field.

The Pioneers took game one 3-0, and then dominated game two, 16-5 to take the lead in the three-game series. Combined, the Pioneers totaled 29 hits including four doubles, one triple, and eight home runs.

In game two, the Pioneers broke the team record for most home runs in a single game with seven.

The first four innings of play were quiet for both the Pioneers and the Falcons until a single from Tylar Lane to left field advanced Kennedy Marlow to second, and Marlow promptly stole third and then went home for the first run of game one. Following Marlow's run, Lauren Trinh sent a single through the middle for an RBI, bringing Lane home for the Pioneers.

In the final inning of game one, Alyssa LeBlanc launched a home run to seal the deal, 3-0.

From the circle, LeBlanc (8-6) threw her first no-hitter this season and seventh no hitter in TWU history. With 105 pitches, 12 strikeouts, and only three walks, the Falcons were offensively dismantled byt LeBlanc.

In game two, the Pioneers wasted no time in the first four innings, recording 10 total runs as a team. With one run in the first, three in the second, four in the third, and two in the fourth, the Pioneers closed out game two recording one run in the sixth, and stringing together five runs in the seventh to end the game 16-5.

To kickoff game two, LeBlanc homered to center field in the first inning, and then hit a double to center field in the second inning for Ciana Rodriguez to score. Trinh followed in the second inning with a single to right field and recorded two RBIs as Lane and LeBlanc scored runs.

In the third inning, Missy Wise recorded her first of two home runs for the night, to allow Makana Morton to score for the Pioneers.

Following Morton's run, Ciana Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to get on base, and then Marlow walked to advance Rodriguez. Then, Marlow stole second advanced to third on a throw, and Ciana Rodriguez scored unearned due to a failed pick-off attempt. Marlow proceeded to score on a wild pitch to close the third inning.

In the top of the fourth inning, Wise hit a dinger to center field for her second RBI to bring Delaney Boley home. The Falcons responded and scored two home runs and a triple to bring the score 10-3 to close out the fifth inning.

The Pioneers sent off their fourth home run of the night scored by Avery Boley in the sixth inning. Three home runs recorded in the seventh from LeBlanc, Trinh, and Hannah Schnettler capped off the night for the Pioneers' historical win.

As a transfer from Paris Junior College, Schnettler recorded her first career NCAA homerun.

In game two, Janyssa Ramos (2-4) recorded the win for the Pioneers after 1 1/2 innings of work. Allison Gonzalez saw the circle for five and 1/3 innings in which she recorded two strikeouts and threw 82 pitches.

On the night, the Pioneers registered a combined 16 RBIs for game one and two. Leading the charge for the Pioneers with a total of five RBIs each was LeBlanc and Trinh, while Wise registered four RBIs, followed by Avery Boley and Schnettler with one RBI each.

"It was a great day at the park," Head Coach Gay McNutt said. "LeBlanc did what LeBlanc does and her team rallied around her. It was a total team effort. I love where this team is headed. We continue to grow and get better."

The Pioneers will be back for more action Saturday, March 18 against UT Permian Basin for game three. First pitch is at noon at Falcon Field.
