ODESSA, Texas (March 18, 2023) – In a 13-2 victory over UT Permian Basin (6-20, 3-15), Texas Woman's (16-14, 10-11) softball overpowered the Falcons to sweep the series.
Â
During a cold and windy midday game at Falcon Field the Pioneers took over in the sixth inning by scoring eighth runs to end game three 13-2. The Pioneers tallied 15 hits, 11 RBI's, two doubles, and three home runs.
Â
Alyssa LeBlanc (9-6) recorded the win for the Pioneers after putting in six innings of work to strikeout 13 batters.
Â
LeBlanc led off scoring in the first inning when
Delaney Boley forced a fielder's choice from the Falcons to record the RBI. The Falcons attempted to go run for run in the first after scoring unearned on a triple to left center.
Â
The Pioneers added two runs to the board in the second inning as LeBlanc stole second and
Kennedy Marlow slid into home plate to score on the throw. Trinh singled to left field to bring LeBlanc home for a much-needed RBI to push the Pioneers lead to two runs.
Â
By the fourth inning, the Pioneers hit their stride to leave only the third inning scoreless. LeBlanc was sure to bring
Ciana Rodriguez home, after sending a double to the left field line.
Â
Offensively, the Pioneers broke open the home run frenzy and scored three home runs in the sixth inning. LeBlanc and Lane each scored back-to-back home runs. After reaching base on a single to the Falcon's short stop, Trinh advanced to second when
Delaney Boley singled down to left field.
Â
Bases were loaded for the Pioneers,
Avery Boley walked to first,
Delaney Boley on second, and Trinh advanced to third. As a pinch hitter for
Missy Wise,
Hannah Schnettler sent a single to the left side to bring home Trinh, followed by
Delaney Boley's slide into home plate on a passed ball, leaving two Pioneers in scoring position.
Â
Marlow stepped up to the plate and singled to right field for
Avery Boley to score. In hopes of stopping the bleeding the Falcon's swapped pitchers. Knowing that LeBlanc was up to bat, Marlow hastily stole second. For the second time in the sixth inning, LeBlanc knocks one out of the park and records a triple RBI for Marlow and Schnettler to score.
Â
The Pioneers were led by LeBlanc with a total of five hits, four runs, and five RBI's. LeBlanc has tied the individual game record for hits and runs in a single game currently held by Bailey Vrazel.
