DENTON, Texas (April 15, 2018) -
Schyler Jones of Texas Woman's University continued to add to her record-setting career Sunday afternoon inside Kitty Magee Arena at the USA Gymnastics Individual Event Finals with four titles to match a TWU program record and become the first gymnast since 2012 to receive four first-place honors at the championships.
Â
After wrapping up the all-around title Friday in the semifinals with her best performance as a Pioneer, Jones was the only gymnast to compete in all four events Sunday, and she did not disappoint. The senior tied a TWU record by tallying four titles, a feat only done once before by Kim Koenig in 1999. The last time four titles were attained at the championship finals by a single gymnast occurred in 2012 by Bridgeport's Monica Mesalles Sallares.
Â
For her efforts throughout the 2018 season, Jones was recognized by USA Gymnastics as the Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year. On Sunday, Jones captured top honors on vault (9.9125), tied for first place on beam (9.825) and floor (9.900), and finished second on bars (9.850).
Â
"Schyler finishing off the weekend having hit 12 of 12 routines over three days of competition was an incredible feat," shared Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman. "It was such an amazing way to finish out a spectacular career."
Â
Mallory Moredock notched a career-best on vault in her final outing as a Pioneer with a 9.8875 for second place.
Alyssa Kelly shared top honors with Jones on beam with her 9.875, and
Erin Alderman tied for third with a 9.800.
Bria Northrop ended in a tie for sixth place on bars with a 9.775.
Â
"I was so proud of how everyone performed today," stated Bowerman. "They did a phenomenal job on every event and represented their team well."
