DENTON, Texas (Feb. 5, 2017) - Texas Woman's University faced off against Midwest Independent Conference opponent Lindenwood University in their first conference matchup of the season with the Lady Lions recording a season-high team score of 194.125 and the Pioneers coming in with a 192.900 Sunday afternoon inside Kitty Magee Arena.
The Pioneers competed in Olympic order starting on vault.
Schyler Jones anchored with the highest score for the team with a 9.800.
Mallory Moredock and
Katie Simpson also kept the excitement up by each scoring in the 9.7's. The team rounded off the event with a 48.275.
On the uneven bars, all five scores that counted towards the team bar score were 9.700 and above. Jones started off the team with a 9.700, while the Vincent duo of
Hunter Vincent and
Taylor Vincent followed with 9.7's.
Bria Northrop put up a 9.800,
Katie Simpson came in with a 9.150, and
Jenna Cashmore anchored with an impressive 9.850. Texas Woman's finished the second rotation with a 48.725.
Balance beam has been the constant struggle this season for the Pioneers and proved to be once more against LU.
Madison Dickson was first on the event coming in with an 8.975, Moredock followed with a solid routine outside of her normal anchor position with a 9.700 and
Hunter Vincent went big and scored a 9.775. Three falls occurred with
Taylor Vincent scoring a 9.220, Northrop 9.250 and Jones with a 9.20 as the team finished with a 47.175.
Going into floor exercise the Pioneers trailed the Lions by 1.700 points. Moredock scored a 9.700 and set a good tone for the team. Versemann brought in a 9.674, Simpson a 9.625 and Alderman got her team pumped with a 9.775. Jones had clean lines to capture a 9.800 and Northrop anchored with a 9.775. The Pioneers matched their bar team score with a 48.725.
Jones took home first on vault with her 9.800. Cashmore swung into first place on uneven bars with a 9.825 and teammate Northrop tied for second with her 9.800.
Hunter Vincent snagged a tie for third on balance beam with a 9.775. Jones took first again on floor exercise with a 9.800, and Alderman and Northrop tied one another for third place with matching 9.775's. Jones took second in the all-around competition with a 38.525 and Northrop took third with her 38.250.
TWU returns home for a tri-meet Saturday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. against fellow MIC opponent Centenary and BYU. The meet will be TWU's annual Pink Night -- wear your pink to the meet to support breast cancer awareness.
