Denton, Texas (Feb. 19, 2017) - The Texas Woman's University's gymnastics team impressed fans and gymnastics alumni by tying a school record set back on March 3, 2003, where the team registered a team score of 196.00. The 2003Â team that set the record went on to win a USAG National Championship.

The team wore throwback leotards of red and black velvet in recognition of Gymnastics Alumni Day as many former Pioneer gymnasts came to support the current team to their second home victory that included three wins.

TWU competed in Olympic order starting on vault.
Hope Parkin made her first competitive appearance scoring a 9.200.
Mallory Moredock followed with a career-tying score of 9.775 and
Brandi Lazarus scored a 9.725.
Hunter Vincent kept up the momentum with a 9.725, while
Katie Simpson notched a career-high of 9.825, and
Schyler Jones anchored with a 9.850. After the first rotation, the Pioneers led the meet with a team score of 48.900.Â

Hard work paid off on uneven bars as the Pioneers maintained the lead throughout the event. Jones started the team off with a 9.625,
Abigail Versemann gained ground with a 9.700 and
Hunter Vincent and sister
Taylor Vincent continued to improve the score by both scoring a 9.825 and setting career-highs. Simpson brought in a 9.800 and
Jenna Cashmore anchored with the highest score for the team on uneven bars with a 9.825 to tie her season record. After the second rotation, the Pioneers had the lead and a team score of 97.875.

On the beam, Simpson set a career-record with a 9.850, and Moredock tied her season-high with a solid 9.825.
Erin Alderman made her first competitive appearance on beam this season with a career-best 9.775. Jones awed TWU fans with her highest ever score on any event with a 9.900.
Taylor Vincent came in with a 9.700, and
Hunter Vincent finished the rotation for the Pioneers with a 9.825. Beam had been a struggle for the team early on in the season, but the Pioneers tallied the highest event score of the meet with a 49.175.

TWU held the lead after the third rotation with a team score of 147.050. Parkin started on floor competing for the first time and finishing with a 9.775, while Moredock totaled a 9.775 and
Abigail Versemann brought in a 9.700. MIC Specialist of the Week
Erin Alderman scored a 9.850 and Jones, the MIC Gymnast of the Week, closed the meet with a 9.850 and a Pioneer win.

Jones increased her all-around record by .25 points from last week with an overall score of 39.225 and taking third in the competition. Simpson also set a career-high with a score of 39.175 to take fourth in all-around. Jones topped the leader board on vault and Simpson took second place. Jones placed second on beam with a 9.900 in a competitive beam field with the highest score coming in as a  9.925 from Penn State's Sabrina Garcia.

The 196.000 is the highest team score for Head Coach
Lisa Bowerman since taking over the program in 2011 following the departure Frank Kudlac, the first gymnastics coach at TWU, who led the Pioneers for 33 years.

TWU is home for the last time of the season against No. 1 Oklahoma Feb. 26 at 2Â p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena. The Pioneers with be honoring senior gymnast
Katie Simpson and will look back on her success at TWU.
