Pioneer Gymnastics adds four for 2018

DENTON, Texas (Nov. 8, 2017) - Head Coach Lisa Bowerman is excited to announce four student-athletes to the Texas Woman's University gymnastics 2018 signee class as announced Wednesday.

Ellie Ambs, Sadie Bish, Domi Bonzagni and Isabel Goyco will join the Pioneers in Fall of 2018. Bowerman stated, "I am thrilled to officially welcome these four to our Pioneer Gymnastics family. Each of these young ladies brings unique skills and personalities that will be great additions to our program. Ellie, Domi, Isabel, and Sadie all have a huge passion for the sport of gymnastics and have the genuine desire to not just be collegiate student-athletes, but to be Pioneers."

Ambs, a two-time Level 10 State and Regional qualifier, joins TWU from New Braunfels where she competed for J&R Gymnastics. In 2017, she earned first place on beam with a 9.700 and first on floor with a 9.625. In 2016, her team was the first place Level 10 Team at the Texas Shoot Out. In addition to gymnastics, Ambs is a 4.0 student while being a Team Policy Debate National Semi-finalist, a Nationals Finalist in Persuasive Speaking and Apologetics Speaking, a Team Policy Captain and a Delta Nu Honor Society member.

"There are so many great reasons to choose TWU, but one of the major reasons for me is the integrity and care of the coaches," Ambs explained. "They value athletic and academic success while still caring for your well-being and success as a person. I am most looking forward to the journey of training and chasing goals as a team."

Hailing from Wilmore, Kentucky, Bish comes to the Pioneers as a runner-up at the Kentucky State Championships in 2017 with Legacy Gymnastics. She is also a Region 5 Level 10 Championships qualifier and has received third place at the Eastern Level 9 Championships as well as Region 5 Level 9 Championships in 2015. The 4.0 GPA student was also a team captain.

"I chose TWU because of the leadership qualities it empowers. The environment is encouraging, supportive, and challenging. I know it will inspire me to become the best version of myself. Everyone is welcoming, determined, and positive. I know that I will thrive academically and athletically at TWU. It's an honor to be a Pioneer," said Bish.

Bonzagni already has some familiarity with Pioneer gymnastics as she is coached by former TWU gymnast Mollie Blessing along with head coach Tina Martin at US Gold Gymnastics in Roanoke. Bonzagni is a two-time State and Regional qualifier and last year was a J.O. National Qualifier where she earned 13th in all-around and ninth on bars.

"I chose TWU because the coaches and girls made me feel so welcomed, and I felt like part of the family. I like the importance placed on academic success as well as athletic success by the coaches. I also love the size and location of the campus," stated Bonzagni. "I am looking forward to being a part of such a tight knit family and working together to achieve goals. I can't wait to participate in the energy and excitement that TWU gymnastics brings."

Goyco is a three-time State and Regional qualifier with Aerial Athletics out of San Antonio where her 37.700 score in all-around earned her second place. The 3.98 GPA student scored in the 98th nationally representative sample percentile for the SAT.

"Texas Woman's University has been my dream school for several years now," expressed Goyco. "I love the campus and location, the team environment that the girls and coaches have created, and the focus that TWU athletics places on upholding excellence in academics. I'm looking forward to training and competing with girls who have such passion for gymnastics and love for the school they represent."

The Pioneers will showcase this season's team Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. during the annual Holiday Spectacular held inside Kitty Magee Arena.
