SAN JOSE, Calif. (Jan. 29) – TWU sophomore gymnast Schyler Jones led the Pioneers on three events and placed second overall in the all-around to help TWU to a second place finish at San Jose State's quad meet.  The Spartans capture the title with a 192.825 while the Pioneers posted a 191.275 followed by Seattle Pacific (189.875) and William & Mary (187.650).
 
Jones scored a 9.550 or higher on all four events and posted a 38.775 all-around score.
 
The Pioneers opened the meet on floor in the first rotation and scored a 47.700.  TWU was led by Jones and freshman Megan Gentry with a 9.600 each.
 
The Pioneers then moved to vault in the second rotation and posted a 48.200.  Jones once again led the team with a 9.775 while Gentry scored a 9.700.
 
In the third rotation TWU posted a 48.300 on bars after three gymnasts scored a 9.700 higher.  The Pioneers were led by junior Katie Simpson with a 9.800 while sophomore Alyssa Kelly scored a 9.750 and freshman Jenna Cashmore finished with a 9.700.
 
The Pioneers stumbled on beam in the final rotation and scored a 47.075 after counting two falls.  After the first three gymnasts fell, sophomore Taylor Vincent scored a 9.700 followed by Kelly with a 9.750 and Jones with a 9.850.
 
"Tonight our team showed a lot of character and a lot of fight," said TWU head coach Lisa Bowerman.  "It was not a perfect meet, but it was great to see the team stay together and bring it back after mistakes.  Tonight was a good step forward for our team.  I am excited to get back in the gym and build on what we did tonight."
 
The Pioneers will return to action when they host a quad meet on Friday, Feb. 5 in Kitty Magee Arena.  TWU will face Auburn, Oklahoma and Illinois State at 7:00 p.m.
