DENTON, Texas (Jan. 24) – The TWU gymnastics team placed second in the quad meet against Air Force, Centenary and Southeast Missouri State Sunday afternoon in Kitty Magee Arena. 
 
SEMO captured the meet title with a 191.900 while the Pioneers scored a 191.600.  Centenary placed third with a 190.525 followed by Air Force with a 190.500.
 
TWU started with a 48.325 on vault in the first rotation led by freshman Megan Gentry.  She scored a 9.750 while sophomore Brandi Lazarus posted a 9.700.
 
The Pioneers had another solid score on bars in the second rotation.  Junior Katie Simpson was the top scorer for TWU with a 9.825.
 
The Pioneers stumbled on beam in the third rotation and posted a 47.425 after counting two falls.  Simpson and freshman Madison Dickson both scored a 9.725 each.
 
TWU finished the meet with a 47.700 on floor in the final rotation.  Freshman Erin Alderman led the Pioneers with a 9.725.
 
"We started off really well on vault but struggled on the next three events," said TWU head coach Lisa Bowerman.  "We did good things on bars and had good routines but struggled with our landing.  We made some big mistakes on beam and we are on a bit of rollercoaster on this event.  We had couple good meets and couple of not so good meets on beam this season.  We still had an opportunity to win the meet on floor but again we couldn't find our landings.  We have short week of training next week.  We need to use the time wisely and make adjustments."
 
The Pioneers will return to action when they travel to San Jose, CA, on Friday, Jan. 29 to compete in San Jose State's quad meet.  TWU will face the Spartans, Seattle Pacific and William & Mary at 9:00 p.m. 9CST) in Spartan Gym.
