DENTON, Texas (Mar. 11) – The Jones family swept the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) gymnastics weekly honors for the week of Mar. 3-9. Freshman
Schyler Jones, the younger sister, was named MIC Gymnast of the Week, while Spencer, the older sister, a senior, was named MIC Specialist of the Week. The weekly honors are first for Schyler and third for Spencer in their collegiate careers.
Schyler Jones dominated the Pioneers' home dual meet against #19 Arizona on Sunday, Mar. 8, winning the all-around title with a career-high 39.175. She also posted career-highs on three of the four events including 9.800 on vault, 9.775 on bars and 9.825 on floor. Schyler has placed in the top-three in all-around in six meets this season including two titles. She scored a 38.275 or better in the AA for the seventh consecutive meet.
Spencer Jones anchored the TWU floor team and closed out the dual meet with a 9.900 on her Senior Day. The 9.900 tied her career-high floor score and earned her the event title. Spencer also posted a season-high 38.900 in all-around and to finished second behind Schyler. She posted a 9.725 on bars, and a 9.775 on beam and has scored a 9.700 or higher in seven meets on bars and four meets on beam this season.
Schyler, Spencer, and the rest of the Pioneers will return to action when they travel to Gainesville, FL, to close out their regular season against #2 Florida on Friday, Mar. 13. The dual meet is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. (CST) at Stephen C. O'Connell Center and will be streamed live on the SEC Network+.
