DENTON, Texas (Mar. 1) – The TWU gymnastics team posted a season-high 194.275 and finished second in a tri-meet against Brown and Maryland on Sunday afternoon in Kitty Magee Arena. The Terrapins won the meet with a 195.525 while the Bears finished third with a 193.950.
TWU senior
Stephanie Repp captured the all-around title with a career-high 38.950 while freshman
Schyler Jones also scored a career-high with a 38.925 to finish second to Repp. TWU freshman
Madison Nettles tied for first on vault with a 9.850 while the Pioneers'
Spencer Jones tied for first on floor with a 9.800.
The Pioneers opened the meet on vault and scored a 48.575. Nettles led the team with the event winning score and sophomore
Katie Simpson finished second on the team with a 9.725.
TWU dominated on bars in the second rotation and captured the team title with a season-high 48.975 team bars score. All six gymnasts in the Pioneers' line-up scored a 9.700 or higher led by
Spencer Jones and senior
Courtney Cochefski with a 9.825 each. Simpson scored a 9.800 while freshman
Alyssa Kelly posted a career-high 9.775, Repp scored a 9.750 and
Schyler Jones finished with a 9.700.
In the third rotation, the Pioneers counted a fall on beam and posted a 48.250.
Schyler Jones scored a career-high 9.850 to lead the team while Repp posted a 9.800 and freshman
Taylor Vincent finished with a career-high 9.725.
In the final rotation on floor, TWU had three gymnasts score a 9.700 or higher for a team score of 48.475.
Spencer Jones led the team with the event title while Repp posted a 9.750 and
Schyler Jones scored a 9.700.
"Our focus was to improve on last week and we definitely did that today," said TWU head coach
Lisa Bowerman. "We still made some mistakes, but we improved our team score and gained more confidence. We knew all along that the performances we started with in the beginning of the season were not up to our potential. It was going to take all year to get there and we are finally seeing it all come together."
The Pioneers will return to action when they host their final regular season home meet on Sunday, Mar. 8. TWU will face Arizona in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m. in Kitty Magee Arena.
