ST. CHARLES, Mo. (Feb. 13) – The TWU gymnastics team scored a 190.500 and finished second at the GQ Invitational in St. Charles, MO.  The host Lindenwood University won the meet with a team score of 194.625 while Centenary placed third with a 188.125.
 
TWU freshman Schyler Jones competed as an all-arounder and scored a 38.375 to finish third overall while a Pioneer senior, Stephanie Repp, placed fifth with a 37.950.  Repp also finished second on beam.
 
The Pioneers opened the meet on bars in the first rotation and scored just 46.775 after counting two falls.  Senior Spencer Jones scored a 9.700 to lead the team while Repp scored a 9.625 and Schyler Jones posted a 9.500.
 
The Pioneers regrouped and scored a 48.400 on beam in the second rotation.  Three gymnasts scored a 9.700 or higher led by Repp with a 9.775.  Spencer Jones posted a 9.725 while Schyler Jones finished with a 9.700.  Senior Kayla Jones and freshman Brandi Lazarus both scored a 9.600 each.
 
The Pioneers moved to floor in the third rotation and scored a 47.300 after counting a fall.  Spencer Jones and Kayla Jones both led the Pioneers with a 9.725 each while Schyler Jones scored a 9.600.
 
TWU closed out the meet on vault with a team score of 48.025.  Sophomore Katie Simpson led the team with a 9.650 while freshman Madison Nettles scored a 9.625 and Repp posted a 9.600.
 
"Schyler once again did a great job and was a great leader," said TWU head coach Lisa Bowerman.  "There were lot of mistakes made tonight, but she was mentally strong and I am very proud of her.  Overall I am disappointed with our team result.  After a tough meet last weekend at Air Force, we worked hard in practice this week and expected to perform better."
 
The Pioneers will now head to Cape Girardeau, MO, for their second meet of the weekend.  TWU will face Southeast Missouri State in a dual meet on Sunday, Feb. 13, at 1:30 p.m. in Houck Field House.
