Three gymnasts sign NLIs to join Pioneers in 2015

DENTON, Texas (Nov. 12) – TWU gymnastics head coach Lisa Bowerman announced the signing of three gymnasts to National Letters of Intent.  Erin Alderman (Fair Oaks, CA), Megan Gentry (Winder, GA) and Anna Gortner (Fairfield, OH) will join the Pioneers in the fall of 2015.

"We are incredibly excited to welcome Anna, Erin and Megan to our Pioneer gymnastics family," said Bowerman.  "All three of these young ladies are outstanding individuals.  They will bring a great deal of talent and excitement to the gym, and will also help us continue our tradition of excellence in the classroom."

Alderman has competed at Byers Roseville Gymnastics in Roseville, CA, since 2008.  She was a state and regional qualifier as a Level 10 competitor in 2013 and 2014.  Alderman also qualified for the 2014 J.O. National Invitational Tournament and placed third on beam at that prestigious event.

"Erin is a fearless competitor who will bring a great deal of power and excitement to our competition arena," Bowerman said.  "Her personality is as big as her gymnastics, and she will surely be a crowd favorite at Kitty Magee Arena."

Gentry has competed at Georgia Elite Gymnastics in Watkinsville, GA.  She helped her team win the State Championship in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.  Gentry qualified for the 2014 Regional as a Level 10 competitor, the 2012 Regional as a Level 9 competitor and the 2011 Regionals as a Level 8 competitor.  She was also the Georgia State Champion on vault and beam in 2012.

"Megan is a polished and powerful athlete who will be ready to make an immediate impact in our lineups," said Bowerman.  "She is a strong competitor on all four events, but I see her making a huge splash on beam in particular during her time here with the Pioneers."

Gortner has competed at Cincinnati Gymnastics Academy in Fairfield, OH, since 2002.  She qualified for the 2013 USA Junior Olympics as a Level 10 competitor.  Gortner also captured the 2013 State all-around and floor championships and helped her team to four Ohio State Championships.

"Anna is an incredible athlete who possesses both grace and power," Bowerman said.  "She has the potential to make an impact on all four events during the 2016 competition season."

"These three student-athletes have a very high work ethic and strong character," Bowerman concluded.  "We are counting down the days until they are on campus next fall."
