TWU Volleyball earns AVCA Team Academic Award

DENTON, Texas (July 28) – The 2009-10 TWU volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award. The Pioneers received the honor for the third straight season after posting a 3.580 cumulative grade point average for the academic year.
TWU is one of 55 NCAA Division II volleyball teams and 224 teams across all three NCAA Divisions to receive the honor. The Pioneers are also one of three Lone Star Conference teams (Abilene Christian and Texas A&M-Commerce) on the list.
The award, which was initiated by the AVCA in the summer of 1993, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that display excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.
Three TWU volleyball players had a perfect 4.0 grade point averages last year - junior Kendra Coulson, sophomore Katelyn Osborne and senior Danielle Veitenheimer. Five other Pioneers had yearly grade point averages of 3.50 or better – freshman Erica Humbach (3.81), sophomore Hayley Summers (3.57), juniors Alyson Harlan (3.78) and Sydney Veitenheimer (3.69) and senior Jessica Crow (3.91).
