Soccer tabbed sixth in LSC Preseason Poll
DENTON, Texas (July 20) – Texas Woman’s University soccer team was picked to finish sixth in the 2010 Lone Star Conference Soccer Preseason Poll. The Pioneers received one first-place vote and 239 points. The voting was conducted among the league’s head coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives.

West Texas A&M collected 20 first-place votes and totaled 370 points to finish first. Central Oklahoma, who won the conference title last season, was right behind WTAMU with nine first-place nods and 356 points, while Midwestern State was third (288), Incarnate Word fourth (274, two first-place votes) and Abilene Christian finished fifth ( 256).

Texas A&M-Commerce (235), Angelo State (175), Southwestern Oklahoma (121), Eastern New Mexico (93), Northeastern State (83) and East Central (81) rounded out the poll.

The Pioneers return 14 letterwinners from its 2009 squad that posted a school record six conference wins and advanced to the conference tournament. TWU will be led by six seniors – Andrea Choate, Gayle Grand-Lienard, Natalie Holovach, Christine Mendoza, Kyli Morgan and Nori Morgan. Holovach was selected Daktronics All-Region for the second straight season in 2009 while Nori Morgan was named LSC Goalkeeper of the Year and NSCAA All-Region.

TWU opens its 2010 regular season at home on September 4. The Pioneers will host Central Missouri at 1:00 p.m. at TWU Soccer Field.
