DENTON, Texas (April 17) – A trio of Texas Woman's University gymnasts - sophomore Rashonda Cannie and freshmen Kristin Edwards and Brittany Johnson - won the bars, vault and beam event titles respectively at the 2010 USAG Collegiate National Championships Individual Event Finals on Saturday night at Kitty Magee Arena. Counting Cannie’s all-around title from this past Thursday, the Pioneers won four of the five individual titles awarded at this year's Championships.

The Pioneers three gold medals in the individual event finals were the most for a single school in the last five years. Seattle Pacific also won three event titles in 2005. In 1999, TWU became the only school in the history of USAG collegiate competition to win all of the event titles.

Johnson started Saturday night's competition off with a 9.800 on beam while her fellow TWU beamer, senior Michelle Graves , placed fifth on the event with a 9.625. Edwards tied with Cornell’s Emily Santoro on for first place on vault with 9.763. Freshman Amy Winczura finished third with 9.738 and Johnson took seventh with 9.675.

Cannie's winning bars score of 9.775 was the only score of the night over a 9.700. Johnson also competed on bars and scored 9.350 for a 12th place finish. Edwards took silver on floor with a 9.800, barely losing out to Bridgeport’s Monica Mesalles by a half a tenth. Winczura tied for third on floor with 9.750 and TWU junior Caroline Hilpisch scored a 9.600 for 11th.

“I am so proud of the girls for bouncing back and performing well after a tough loss in the team finals yesterday,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “Winning three of the four events in front of your home crowd is a good way to end the season.”
