DENTON, Texas (March 2) – The Texas Woman’s University softball team swept a doubleheader against Missouri Southern by scores of 9-3 and 6-2 at Pioneer Field on Tuesday night. Freshman
Lizzy Kelly paced the TWU offense with five RBI in two games.
In game one, the Pioneers scored in the first four innings including a four-run second. Kelly and sophomore
April Mandel both drove in two runs each while senior pitcher
Carly Case pitched a complete game for the win. She allowed three runs on six hits and struck out three batters.
In game two, TWU scored a run in the bottom of the second before the Lions tied the game in the fifth and took the lead in the sixth. The Pioneers answered in the bottom of the sixth five runs. Kelly droving in three runs in the inning with a double to left center. She also started in the circle and pitched 4.1 innings. Freshman
Kayla Williams came in relief and picked up the win after pitching 2.2 innings.
“Our offense did what we have to do and got hits with runners on base,” said TWU head coach Richie Bruister. “I am very proud of Lizzy. She is working hard and getting better and better every day.”
TWU and Missouri Southern will play again on Wednesday, Mar. 3, at Pioneer Field in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
