EDMOND, Okla. (Feb. 6) – The TWU basketball team dropped another close one to Central Oklahoma, 74-69, Saturday afternoon in Edmond, OK. Senior Jessica Durr and junior Kayla Weaver led four Pioneers in double figures with 16 points each.

TWU fell behind early and trailed by 15 points halfway through the first half. The Pioneers rallied to the cut the deficit to five before UCO built the lead back up to 16 points at 3:45 mark. The Pioneers closed out the half on a 12-0 run to make it a four-point game at the break.

The Bronchos came out of the locker room and scored 10 straight points and led by 19 points, 60-41 with 10:19 to go in the game. TWU chipped away and outscored Central Oklahoma, 28-10, to make it a one-point game with 1:28 left. The Pioneers missed their final four shots while UCO hit four of six free throws to seal the game.

“We started slow and did not shot the ball well in the first half but rallied to make it a game at the half,” said TWU head coach Beth Jillson. “We had too many turnovers and allowed 29 points off of them. The positive thing is that we did not give up and rallied from big deficits.”

Durr scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half and Weaver added 10 in the final 20 minutes. Sophomore Jessica Hanna added 13 points and senior Megan Hashman chipped in 11 points. Weaver and Hashman led the team with nine rebounds each.

“Durr played a good game off the bench,” Jillson said. “She was aggressive to the basket and drew some fouls especially in the final 10 minutes.”

TWU outrebounded the Bronchos, 40-37, and the Pioneers’ bench outscored UCO’s bench, 27-6.

The Pioneers (4-5) will return to action when they take on Cameron on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m. in Lawton, OK.
