Basketball closes regular season with a win at East Central

ADA, Okla. (Feb. 27) –The basketball team closed out the regular season with a 93-81 win at East Central Saturday afternoon. Senior Jessica Durr scored 19 points to reach her 1000th career point.

Five players reached double digits led by senior Keshia Bolds with a game-high 21 points. Durr added 19 while senior Megan Hashman chipped in 14, junior Tiandrea Dixon added 13, and sophomore Jessica Hanna scored 11 points. Durr also led the game with 13 rebounds and now has 1,001 career points and 544 career rebounds.

“Durr played a great game and she put herself in the record book as one of the top players at TWU,” said TWU head coach Beth Jillson. “We closed out the regular season with three wins and have the momentum going into the tournament. I am very proud of the team.”

After six ties and four lead changes in first half, the Pioneers went on a 15-6 run to take 42-33 lead at 1:42 mark. Bolds scored 11 of her 21 points in the first half to help TWU take a 47-40 halftime lead.

ECU cut the deficit to three points at 17:22 mark in the second but the Pioneers answered with an 11-2 run. TWU pushed the lead to 19 points with 5:46 to go and made 15 of 18 free-throws to seal the victory.

The Pioneers improved to 15-11 overall and 9-5 in the LSC North Division. TWU will advance to the 2010 LSC Tournament on March 4-7 in Bartlesville, OK.
