TWU volleyball defeats Texas Wesleyan in straight sets

DENTON, Texas (Sept. 9) – TWU volleyball defeated visiting Texas Wesleyan in straight sets, 25-23, 25-15, and 25-21 in Kitty Magee Arena. Senior Danielle Pegues led the game with nine kills.

The Pioneers were in control the entire game with .172 hitting percentage and seven service aces. TWU had 28 assists on 33 team kills and recorded five team blocks.

“Our serving was very good today,” said head coach Shelly Barberee. “Danielle stepped up and played a great game. I was happy that everyone got some playing time.”

Pegues finished the game with .412 hitting percentage. Junior Launa McClung and freshman Erica Humbach each added five kills. Senior Heather Maddox led the Pioneers with 14 assists and three service aces while junior Sydney Veitenheimer added eight assists. Junior Kendra Coulson was the team leader in digs with 12.

The Pioneers (4-6) are back in actions this weekend when they travel to Stephenville, TX to play in Tarleton TexAnn Invitational on Sept. 11-12. TWU will take on Oklahoma Panhandle at 3:00 p.m. and UT-Permian Basin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and Texas A&M-International at 12:30 p.m. and Incarnate Word 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
