Harding
DENTON, Texas (Sept. 5) – TWU volleyball split the two games on the second day at the 2009 TWU Volleyball Tournament. The Pioneers defeated UT-Permian Basin in five sets, 22-25, 19-25, 25-16, 25-14, and 15-10, before falling to Harding in three sets, 16-25, 20-25, and 14-25.
After dropping the first two sets against UTPB, the Pioneers won the next three on strong hitting and defense. Juniors Alyson Harlan and Launa McClung both led the game with 15 kills each. Harlan also added 16 digs to record her first career double-double. Sophomore Katelyn Osborn added eight kills and seven block assists. Junior Kendra Coulson had a game-high 27 digs while senior Jessica Crow added 22 digs and 31 assists for her second double-double of the season. As a team the Pioneers hit .227 and posted 13 team blocks.
In game two TWU struggled offensively hitting just .043 against Harding. Junior Dani Veitenheimer led the team with seven kills while freshman Amanda Hall added six kills and 11 digs.
Osborn was named to the all-tournament team after recording 18 block assists and 25 kills in four games. She was joined by Holly Hicks from East Central, Manuela Nesheva and Emily Tate from Harding, Maggie Glover from Southern Arkansas, Emily Walter from Southwestern Oklahoma, Sha Tramble from Texas A&M-Kingsville, Alex Genung from UT-Permian Basin and Mollie Lacy and Breanna Lewis from Washburn.
