Three gymnasts sign with Pioneers for 2009-2010
DENTON, Texas (April 20) – The Texas Woman’s University gymnastics team received three commitments to join the Pioneers in the fall of 2009. Krystyn Misheck (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg), Brittany Montalbano (Frisco, TX/Centennial) and Amelia Winczura (Eagle River, AK/East Anchorage) will join a team that has won nine USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships.

“We are super excited to have these three join our team next year,” said TWU head coach Frank Kudlac. “Each brings a wealth of talent and high level gymnastics experience to our squad. We have some very big shoes to fill next year as we lost 10 of the 24 routines that competed at the National meet. I expect all of them to make an immediate impact on our scoring potential and starting line-ups. All three fit in our team philosophy in terms of academic accomplishments as well.”

Misheck is a former level 10 USA Gymnastics competitor for Balance Institute of Gymnastics located in Burr Ridge, IL. She captured the 2009 Illinois High School Association floor championship. Mischeck, an honor roll student every semester, is the member of National Honor Society and maintained a 3.996 cumulative grade point average. She served as the team captain and also earned two varsity letters in golf.

Montalbano, a level 10 at Top Flight Gymnastics located in Southlake, TX, qualified for the 2009 Junior Olympic National Championships with a seventh place finish in all-around competition at the 2009 Region 3 Championships. She also tied for fourth on bars, fifth on floor exercise, seventh on beam and tenth on vault. Montalbano is a three-time Region-3 qualifier (2006, 2008 and 2009) and received the 2008 Hardest Worker Award. She is an active member of her high school’s DECA team.

Winczura, a level 10 at Arctic Gymnastics located in Anchorage, AK, finished third in the all-around competition at the Region 2 Championships to qualify for the Nationals this season. She also placed third on the floor exercise, fourth on the vault, sixth on bars and seventh on the beam. As a level 9 she was the Region 2 Vault champion in 2007 and Region 2 Vault, Beam, Floor and All Around champion in 2008. As a high school gymnast, Winczura was named 2005 Cook Inlet Conference Rookie of the Year and in 2008 named CIC Most Valuable Gymnast and a High School All-American. She is ranked in the top 10 percent of her class and was an honor roll student every semester.
