DENTON, Texas (Nov. 11) – Ten student-athletes from the Texas Woman’s University volleyball team earned Lone Star Conference academic awards this season.
Senior Jessica Crow and junior Kendra Coulson were chosen for the 2009 LSC Volleyball All-Academic team. Seniors Heather Maddox and Danielle Pegues, juniors Alyson Harlan, Dani Veitenheimer and Sydney Veitenheimer and sophomores Katelyn Osborne, Arden Richardson and Hayley Summers grabbed spots on the 2009 LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Crow, an elementary education major with a 3.946 cumulative grade point average, leads the Pioneers this season with 693 assists and 6.54 assists per game. She posted 13 double-doubles this year and a career-high 22 digs on two separate occasions. The All-Academic team selection is the third consecutive for the Longview, Texas native. She was named the 2008 LSC Academic Player of the Year and picked for the 2007 All-Academic team. Crow was also a three-time ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA All-District selection.
Coulson is a legal studies major with a perfect 4.00 grade point average. She is the Pioneers' leader on defense with 493 digs. Coluson was also chosen for the 2008 LSC All-Academic and is a two-time ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA All-District selection.
Maddox, a dietetics major with a 3.395 grade point average, played in 96 sets this season and is second on the TWU team in assists (354) service aces (22). The Commissioner's Honor Roll distinction is the first for Maddox in her TWU career.
Pegues, an occupational therapy major with a 3.437 GPA, was also a member of the 2007 LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. She played in 88 sets this season for TWU and has 149 kills and 43 total blocks.
Harlan is a marketing major and has a 3.365 grade point average. She is the Pioneers attack leader with 268 kills, 2.63 kills per game, 38 service aces and 327.5 points and is second on the team with 299 digs. The Commissioner's Honor Roll pick is a first for her.
Danielle Veitenheimer was also a member of the 2008 LSC Commissioner’s Honor Roll. She is a speech pathology major with a 3.520 grade point average. Veitenheimer has appeared in 87 sets this season and has 152 kills to her credit.
Sydney Veitenheimer, a marketing major with a 3.741 GPA, is a Commissioner's Honor Roll selection for the first time in her career. She has played in 23 sets this season and has 84 assists and eight service aces to her credit.
Osborne is a graphic design major has a 3.733 grade point average. She appeared in 112 sets this year and is second on the team in kills with 191. She also leads the team with 85 total blocks. She is another first timer on the Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Richardson is a bio chemistry major with a 3.813 grade point average. She has played in 88 sets this season and has 187 digs. The academic honor is also the first for Richardson.
Summers, a kinesiology major with a 3.600 grade point average, played in 37 sets. She has 46 kills and 63 digs on the season. The academic honor is also the first for Summers.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.30 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. The All-Academic team is voted on by the conference’s sports information directors. All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
