Pioneer athletes post record-setting GPA
DENTON, Texas (January 29) – The student-athletes at Texas Woman’s University continue to make the grades.

The 89 women on the fall rosters of the Pioneers’ five NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletic teams (basketball, gymnastics, soccer, softball, and volleyball) recorded a cumulative 3.409 grade point average – the highest in the history of TWU athletics - during the recently completed fall 2008 semester. This marks the 53rd semester in a row (more than 26 full academic years) of a cumulative semester GPA of 3.0 or higher by the Pioneers.

The TWU volleyball squad posted a phenomenal 3.713 team GPA, the best single-semester mark ever by a Pioneer team. The team semester grade point averages for the other four Pioneer teams were also outstanding, a 3.438 for softball, a 3.348 for basketball, a 3.344 for gymnastics, and a 3.202 for soccer.

“I am bursting with pride right now,” Director of Athletics Chalese Connors said. “Our fall grades are simply remarkable and I cannot heap enough praise on the student-athletes for all of their hard work in the classroom. The volleyball student-athletes continue to amaze me as they keep breaking their own school record. Wow is all I can say about their 3.713! The coaches and staff supporting these young women must also be recognized. Everyone’s commitment to academic excellence is quite evident in these results.”

Nineteen student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 GPA in the fall semester: six from volleyball – Kendra Coulson, Jessica Crow, Heather Maddox, Katelyn Osborne, Sharon Schaffner, and Kandis Schroeder; five from softball – Billie Callahan, Erin Hinojosa, Amy Menge, Alli Packer, and Megan Warren; four from gymnastics – Amie Boles, Brista Michael, Leslie Pladson, and Amanda Walker; three from soccer – Madisen Burrows, Aly Evans and Jacqueline Horner; and one from basketball – Mallory Schenk.
