Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon scheduled for August 9, 2009
DENTON, Texas (December 22) – Texas Woman’s University will host the third annual Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon on Sunday, August 9, 2009.

This USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned event is scheduled to begin at 6:45 a.m. and will feature a 300 meter swim, a 20 kilometer bike ride, and a 3.3 mile run.

The swim will take place in the indoor pool of Pioneer Hall. Both the bike and run courses will start and finish on the interior of the TWU campus (in front of the Blagg-Huey Library).

Dallas Sports University, a Coppell based company, will produce the race.

All profits from the Pioneer Power Sprint Triathlon will benefit the TWU Soccer program. Fleur Benatar, the Pioneers’ head soccer coach and a competitive triathlete herself, is looking forward to the event.

“I’m excited,” said Benatar. “This is going to be an excellent triathlon. The TWU campus is the perfect place to host a race such as this one. Hopefully we’ll get a strong turnout for this competition.”

More than 300 individuals competed in the 2008 Pioneer Power Sprint on July 6, 2008. Benatar believes the 2009 race will be even bigger.

“We received a ton of positive feedback from everybody that took part in last year’s triathlon. I’m expecting close to 350 athletes to come out this time around,” she said.

Please contact Fleur Benatar (fbenatar@twu.edu/469-939-4520) or Dallas Sports University’s Dan Jones (danejones@verizon.net/214-502-9837) for additional details regarding the 2009 Pioneer Power Sprint. Registration and fee information for this event will be announced shortly.
